Darwin at Notre Dame is a most welcome event, celebrating  Charles Darwin's 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of  "On the Origin of Species." That Notre Dame would celebrate, and investigate,  Darwin's accomplishments is especially appropriate, given the long history of interaction between Catholicism and modern science, from the genetecist monk Gregor Mendel to scholars working at the Vatican Observatory. We look forward to a series of rich conversations in laboratories, classrooms and performance spaces, as  the College of Arts and Letters again joins many facets of its intellectual energies.
